2015 Alabama Renaissance Faire

Made our yearly pilgrimage to Florence Alabama to take in the sights, smells, and sound of the Alabama Renaissance Faire this past weekend.  Took the camera but as usual ended up so involved in the moment(s) didn't get near the # of pictures I had planned on.

Some of a blacksmith and his equipment -

One of  Nuna Faun

The giants back...

A couple of a Viking style tent I really like -

One of a some book lights that I found interesting. Unfortunately was unable to get any closer/better.

And last but certainly not least a couple of an extremely well done piece of sculpture done using coils of clay.  I love this piece!

Will see if I can find links to the vendors once I find the business card stash that seems to be misplaced right now.

There and back again

Made it to the Pow Wow without any trouble with truck or camper.  Had several good days there and after finally getting everything broken down just after dark made the trip back home again without problems other than my night blindness and way too many arsehats with bright lights behind us.

At the event we had a good time. Lots of good folks and hooked up with both old and new friends.  Hated for it to come to an end.

Trade blanket was a blast!  Made several good trades and watched quite a few more.

Met a fellow who was Seminole and Inca who did some very nice jewelry work.  Learned several things from him that I'm incorporating into my wire wrapped jewelery.

Took way too much stuff as usual.  Got to figure out how to pare it down to the essentials.

After several trips with the camper have figured out a few changes that need to be made. Just got to figure out how to make them between events.

Heading out again either Friday or early Saturday for Florence AL for the Alabama Ren Faire.  Depends on how much we decide to carry with us.  Not vending so that removes several hundred pounds from both the camper and the truck.  Not sure where we will stay, most likely at the camp ground on the Tenn River.  Thinking about staying over on Monday and maybe Tuesday to visit a couple of Indian mound museums that are in the area.  Will see how things go.

New Tires!

Went and got the new tires.  2 13 inch tires mounted on rims cost total $130! Weight rating is 1360 pounds @ 50 psi.  Got the first one on and that side of the trailer is sitting about 2 inches higher than it was on the old tire.  Am quite happy with the deal!  Soon as money allows will go back and get another one for a spare.  The tires I'm taking off will serve for spares for now but I'd rather have one of these new trailer tire asap.

Camper carpeted

Dug through the piles of carpet squares and separated the better ones out. Camper is about 45 inches wide inside at floor level so took 2 and a 5 inch piece across. It's about 93 and some change long so 4 full rows and then a trimmed one. Looks good, was cheap enough, and is replaceable as I just laid it in place.

Found a place north of Jacksonville that has reasonable trailer tires in the size I need but is currently out of stock. Guy I talked to yesterday said they should have them in soon. Hoping today or tomorrow.

Going out to the camper now to start on the last trim work on the front. Was hoping to get the door replaced before this trip but don't think I can do that and get the rest of the stuff done too so that may have to wait till later.

Will see about getting some pictures and posting them later.

Carpet score!

Eating at the Pell City Steakhouse and noticed some pallets of old carpet squares sitting outside our window. Asked Bruce (our waiter, we eat there regular) about them and he said the owner had replaced the carpet in there a few weeks back and was slowly throwing the old stuff away. I asked if I could come back and get them all and was told yes!  So finished the trip and dropped Cat off at her mom's then came back and loaded the truck.

Ended up with over 1300 sq ft of industrial grade carpet 20" squares. Toyota Tacoma was DRAGGING coming the 35 miles home. The really worn out stuff I am using to carpet the muddy areas in the drive way and under the work tents in the yard. Better stuff is going in the workshop after I use a few pieces in the camper!

Always pays to ask about stuff, as a lot of folks have to pay to get rid of things that still have quite a bit of life left.
